THE ULSTER PROJECT
INTERNATIONAL PEACE PROGRAM
Kendall participated in the Ulster Project in 2008-2009, where she hosted Irish students and helped to build bridges between Irish Catholics and Protestants. In this program, the 14 to 16 year-old teenagers learn, in Kendall’s words, “to become a network of peacemakers as well as something resembling a family.” There has been tremendous progress toward peace in Ireland, however, much work remains to be done. The program sponsors a group of Catholic and Protestant teens from Ireland to participate in a month-long program in America, where the teens are paired with American Catholic and Protestant teens for homestays. The month consists of a ropes training course to develop trust, a series of “Discovery” courses which provide an open forum to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures, and service projects and social activities.

LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS
There are two funds at Loyola set up to honor Kendall’s memory.
The first is “The Kendall Daigle Study Abroad Writing Contest” which will provide an annual scholarship to support tuition for the studyabroad program in Ireland and other countries. Kendall participated in the Ulster Project, described below, in 2008-2009; the Kendall Daigle Peace Prize will go to the winner of a writing contest who contributes the best essay on building peace in our world.
The second fund is for the Walker Percy Center for Writing and Publishing which offers community creative writing workshops and other opportunities for high school and college-aged writers. The Center publishes books in the humanities—philosophy, religious studies, creative nonfiction, and fiction—as well as provides educational and vocational opportunities for writing and publishing.
