Her smile alone could lift anyone's spirits and her kind actions would go far beyond that. Our hope is that through her words that light will reach out to many people, far and wide. Behind her multicolored hair, her sweet smile, and her gentle voice she was so much more than a timelessly beautiful face. Through each page, it becomes more clear that Kendall Daigle was a force, a young writer who wrote with an alarming urgency, seemingly not only because she enjoyed it, but because she had to, to release the pressure bubbling up inside. Loyola University New Orleans that honors the late Kendall Michelle Daigle by celebrating her life and creativity, while addressing her struggle with drug addiction, through community engagement. Through Open Mic poetry readings, an unveiling of the permanent memorial, and distribution of Kendall’s book, A Soul Under Construction, the event aims to foster a safe space for intimacy, reflection, and open dialogue about mental health and drug abuse with information on resources offered by the University Counseling Center. We chose this particular tree because it blooms pink magnolia as a symbol of her pink hair. The library will include other books connected to mental health and drug addiction resources, and a Kendall Collective community journal.
